It has been a long journey for me, but I can see the heavens opening up in about three and a half months from now :) Hello my name is Dayrell Gibson and I’m in my last semester of the MSW Advanced Standing program at Wayne State. I’m currently interning at The Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center Downtown Detroit doing groups and one on ones, and having fun. I took this course as an elective and to also learn and understand more about this population. I currently am working full time with Community Housing Network as a supportive specialist, working with a population of whom are dual diagnosed and were previously homeless for 2 years or more. I do home visits with the chronics part of this population and support them twice a week to assist them in staying on track with their housing which is subsidized by our organization. I don’t believe I chose the field of Social Work, I believe it chose me. I have a passion for the work I do, and very compassionate with those I work with.
I am a BSW graduate of Oakland University. I went to Oakland Community College for my Associates in Social Work / Mental Health. I am excited to be in the MSW program at Wayne State. I have been working full time and going to school for the last five years and looking forwarded to finishing up. I have a beautiful wife of 17 years, four daughters and two grandchildren. After my MSW I am looking forward to working in the mental health field and/or being in full time ministry. May GOD bless all of you as you are working toward your MSW and your future endeavors.
